In 1948, after serving in World War II for three years as a pilot in the China-Burma-India Theatre of Operations and later graduating from Pennsylvania State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering, William “Bill” Hollenbach joined the team at The Schmoyer Lumber Company, 27 N. Washington St., Boyertown. During this time, the company’s primary business was the operation of a home supply center and the sale of lumber and construction materials. A hard working and energetic young man, Bill began to acquire the knowledge and skills which would eventually promote him to General Manager of the company.

After 20 industrious years with The Schmoyer Lumber Co., Bill decided to purchase the organization. On April 1, 1968 he became Owner and President. His wife, Norma Hollenbach, was vice president and William Manley was secretary-treasurer. This period saw the beginning of the company’s construction division which dealt with the complete turnkey erection of pre-engineered metal buildings for industrial, commercial and warehouse use. The company as a team was always striving to provide quality service to their customers and to help build a better community.

In 1972 Jim Hollenbach joined his father’s business working full-time as a carpenter. He would later become a construction foreman and ultimately earned a position as project manager. Then, 1973 observed a change of the corporate name from The Schmoyer Lumber Company to W. Hollenbach Company, although the personnel and location had remained the same.

The home supply and construction businesses were growing, and before long Bill saw need for a larger store with more visibility to the public. W. Hollenbach Company moved its principal place of business to Route 100 & County Line Road, Gilbertsville in 1976.

The home supply store began doing business as Hollenbach Home Center while construction remained W. Hollenbach Company, Construction Division. The two divisions operated with great success from this location for over two decades largely in part to the continual addition of conventional construction means and methods to satisfy customer’s needs and to rise above and beyond their expectations.

Bill retired as President of W. Hollenbach Company in 1985, becoming Chairman of the Board and entrusting the business to his son, Jim. Several years later the Construction Division again saw a name change; this time to Hollenbach Construction, Inc. Under Jim’s management the business again experienced significant growth. By 1999 Hollenbach Construction, Inc. had outgrown its location at Route 100 & County Line Road which was shared with Hollenbach Home Center.

The decision to discontinue the Home Center business to focus closely on the expanding construction company was made and in 2000 Hollenbach Construction, Inc. moved to 166 Holly Road, Gilbertsville where it continues today.

Timothy Little, President, and Stephanie Hollenbach, Secretary/Treasurer, purchased the company from Jim Hollenbach in December 2009. Jim retired as President and is currently Chairman of the Board. Both Tim and Stephanie had been actively involved in the day to day management of the company in previous years.
